Welcome, world! My name is Esteban, and I live in Lindsay, California. I started a small tech & media startup with my Co-Founder, Jonathan, that’s based in Lindsay. We are San Joaquin Industries, and we’re planning on building something that can change everything.
That sounds a little too extra – a little idealistic, right? I mean, we had every reason to run a business out of a place like Fresno, or LA – Chicago, even. Well, we didn’t. We chose to focus on this city that’s incredible, beautiful, annoying, frustrating, and unlike anywhere else.
So, I’m so excited to introduce my blog that I spent weeks naming: Orange You Glad I Asked. This blog will cover two key topics about our city and region:
Interesting events and projects in the area.
Interesting people with interesting stories.
For example, did you know about the Big Noise at the Library event at the Lindsay Library? It’s an open mic night for all musicians and artists that seriously pulls in some talent.
The incredible Ms. Nancy Wills built the LHS guitar program and has been a gift to this community. Because she taught me, my siblings, cousins, and just about everyone else in Lindsay, she was able to build a successful and regular Big Noise event that flourished before the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, she’s building it up again.
I’ve been attending the last several events and I’m surprised Lindsay isn’t bringing in hundreds of performers and spectators – I’m actually trying to get my friend to sing a mariachi song, or at least to perform Amor Eterno at a future performance. Check out Big Noise’s Instagram page for some highlights of performances from Lindsay High School learners, Ms. Wills herself, musicians and singers of all genres, and even a Brit who exudes Americana vibes and lives here in the Valley. Mi nombre es Esteban, y vivo en Lindsay, California.
Comencé y fundé una pequeña empresa de tecnología y medios en Lindsay. Somos San Joaquin Industries, y estamos planeando en construir algo que pueda cambiar todo.
Eso suena un poco extra, como poco realista, ¿no? O sea, teníamos tantas razones para empezar una empresa desde un lugar como Fresno, o Los Ángeles – aún Chicago. Bueno, no lo hicimos. Elegimos centrarnos en Lindsay, una ciudad que es increíble, hermosa, molesta, frustrante, y diferente a cualquier otro lugar.
Entonces, estoy muy emocionado de presentar mi blog que pasé semanas nombrando: Orange You Glad I Asked. Este blog cubrirá dos temas clave de nuestra ciudad y región:
- Interesantes eventos y proyectos locales.
- Personas interesantes con historias interesantes.
Por ejemplo, ¿sabías sobre el evento Big Noise at the Library en la biblioteca de Lindsay? Es una noche “de micro abierto” que atrae mucho talento en la que el público participa como cantantes, músicos, o artistas.
La Señora Nancy Wills, la que construyó el programa de guitarra en la prepa LHS, ha sido una bendición para nuestra comunidad. Gracias a que ella nos enseñó a mí, a mis hermanos, a mis primos y a casi todos los demás en Lindsay, Sra. Wills pudo crear el evento Big Noise que floreció antes de la pandemia COVID-19. Ahora, ella lo está reconstruyendo de nuevo.
He estado asistiendo a los últimos eventos y me sorprendió que Lindsay no está atrayendo a cientos de artistas y espectadores – de hecho, estoy tratando de convencer a mi amiga de que cante una canción mariachi, o al menos a cantar Amor Eterno en un evento futuro. Hecha un vistazo a la página de Instagram de Big Noise para ver grabaciones de actuaciones de estudiantes/aprendices, la propia Sra. Wills, músicos y cantantes de todos los géneros musicales y hasta un britanico que exuda vibras “Americana” y que vive en el Valle Central.
